This episode features my discussion with Mitch Baker, aka Fog FM, and Brody Reid, aka Percwerk. We discuss their connection to dance music and DJing, how they met, and their earliest instalments of Body Language and Exploria.
Mitch Baker, aka Fog FM, is a DJ, promoter and dance music enthusiast hailing from Lahave, Nova Scotia. Mitch’s involvement in electronic music stems from a perpetual curiosity around rave culture, its roots, and the music that has soundtracked a decades-long history. Mitch also brings an informed perspective on harm reduction and safety to nightlife as a registered social worker. He’s facilitated drug overdose prevention workshops and led the operations of wellness teams for festival settings.
Brody Reid, aka Percwerk, is a DJ and event organizer originally from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, but has cut his teeth as a raver at parties in Halifax, Montreal and abroad. Percwerk is a fundamental music nerd at heart, leaving few stones unturned in his search for sonic gems that can shake a dance floor. He has an eclectic palette ranging from techno in its countless forms, to electro, house, downtempo and any genre that falls somewhere in between.
Mitch and Brody are true kindred spirits who met by chance on a local rave forum. In 2022, they joined forces to launched Body Language, a summertime celebration of dance music on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, and Exploria, their Halifax rave series. Since then, Exploria has hosted a slew of local taste-making DJs alongside internationally-renowned DJs such as Priori, Reptant, DJ Voices, Basic Soul Unit and Sleep D.
